"Series contains: Buttle's expedition notebooks, publications and photographs which record the Manchester University expedition to Cyrene in 1952 (led by Alan Rowe)."

Biographical history

"Derek Buttle worked as Rowe's assistant for his first campaign in Cyrene (1952). Buttle studied the architecture in Cyrene and included five tombs (three of which had been excavated by Rowe), in his doctoral thesis 'The Greek and Roman architecture of Cyrene', which he submitted in 1957.", u"Related publication: 'Cyrenaican Expedition of the University of Manchester, 1952', by Alan Rowe, Derek Buttle & John Gray, (Manchester University, 1956)."
