Scope

Boulder at base of escarpment promontory defining E mouth of Maknusa, adjacent to MAK002. Carvings on near vertical surface.

Arrangement

Bubalus antiquus, rhinoceros, two cows, inscriptions, graffiti: On left of panel is incised and smoothed outline of a Bubalus antiquus facing right with large rounded shoulder, details of leg muscles and joints, small hooves, thin upward curved tail, head bent down, large upward and outward curving horns. Lines and some pecking on hide, modern damage to head. Pecked lines above horns. To the right is incised and smoothed outline of (black?) rhinoceros in motion facing right with thick legs, rounded feet, large elongated head, small ears, eye, pointed single horn at end of snout, incised band around middle. Below are incised and smoothed outlines of two possible cows facing right, each with large forward curving horn. Diagonal lines on rump of left hand cow. Scratched graffiti and incised Libyan and Arabic inscriptions over all images, including date (2004). No graffiti on panels in 1950s photographs. Figure 7.65 Rhinoceros in Pauphillet (1953)
