Scope

Outcropping rock forming part of difficult to access lower cliff on promontory terminus close to modern settlement of Gragra. GRA100A is a very large panel with natural fissures. Carvings on vertical surface.

Arrangement

Bull, cow, four giraffes, two gazelles, two bovids, caprine, carnivore, quadruped, indeterminate: On far right side of panel is incised outline of Tazina style giraffe facing left with long neck, short upward pointing horns or ears, tail down, pecking on hide. Series of incised lines forming indeterminate image to right and left of giraffe, possibly part of animal or human figure. To the left is a fissure, left of this is a cluster of images. On the right of this cluster is incised and smoothed outline of Tazina style bull with large forward curving horn, vertical line across its belly (phallus?) and elongated tail. Incised lines to the right of the horn. To the left is incised outline of a cow facing right with upward and inward curving horns, double vertical lines across and below belly, fine lines incised on rump, pecking on and below body. Above these two animals are two pecked indeterminate shapes, one incised shape, possibly a partial quadruped, and incised outline of a gazelle facing right with thin backward curving horns, possibly an oryx. Above is eroded incised and smoothed outline of a large, incomplete bovid facing left with upward curving horns, possibly a Bubalus antiquus. Left of this cluster, defined by fissures, is pecked outline of a caprine, possibly a goat, facing left with short backward pointing horns, superimposed over incised outline of bovid facing right with narrow upward curving horns, possibly a hartebeest. Several incised lines forming indeterminate shapes. Left of this, on area defined by vertical fissures, is pecked outlines of carnivore with short upward pointing ears, possibly a jackal, and quadruped with short upward pointing horn. Further left is cluster of larger images. On right of cluster is pecked and smoothed outline of giraffe facing right with long neck and short upward pointing horns or ears, line along neck for mane, some pecking on hide. Giraffe is superimposed over legs of incised outline of a gazelle facing right with long backward curving horn. Other lines from indeterminate images with some later pecking. Superimposed over rear of giraffe is finely incised outline of giraffe facing right with long neck and triangular horn or ear. Above is pecked outline of bovid facing right with straight upward pointing horns, pecking on hide and recent pecking on head and hide. To the left is pecked outline of second bovid facing right with short upward pointing ears or horns. Below this are pecked outlines of a quadruped facing right with short upward pointing ears or horns and a possible giraffe facing right with long neck.
