Scope

Upstanding boulder on small, raised terrace on NE terminus of promontory next to small stream gully, overlooking town of Al-Fugar 100m below. Panel surface has broken, with right-hand section lying 5m to E when visited in 2009. Carvings on near vertical surface. Carvings on panel fragment now on upward facing surface, not in situ and partly broken.

Arrangement

Two giraffes, grooves, graffiti: On left of main panel is incised outline of giraffe facing right with long neck bent forward, short horns or ears, tail raised, and pecking on body, some of which is recent. U-shaped belly, legs tapering to base of panel, feet not depicted. To right and below neck of this giraffe is head and neck of second, smaller animal facing right, probably a giraffe. Short horns or ears, body and legs indistinct, although there have been recent attempts to incise the rest of the outline. Several U-shaped grooves and fine incisions, some forming X shapes, around the images. To the right of the giraffe, the panel surface has broken away, exposing a less patinated surface on which graffiti has been incised in Roman script. On the extreme right-hand edge of the original panel surface is the incised rear end of an animal that corresponds to the carved images on fragment. Fragment has three giraffes and incisions: On left side of fragment is giraffe facing right with long neck and short upward pointing horns. V-shaped body with extensive pecking on body area, two legs depicted. tapering off base of panel. Incised X symbol below neck. To the right is giraffe facing right with short upward pointing horns, pecking on body, U-shaped belly, tail lowered, legs tapering off base of panel. Head and upper neck on fragmented corner of panel, which is at risk of becoming detached. To the right of this giraffe is a third giraffe facing right with short upward pointing horns and ears, tail raised, U-shaped belly. Head on corner fragment of panel. Recent fine incised lines to right of images, and over necks of two right-hand giraffe. Mattingly et al (2003, 2007: 166)
