Scope
"This series contains: Thorn's research notes and a small collection of publications relating to Richard Norton's expedition to Cyrene (1910 - 11), which was jointly sponsored by the Archaeological Institute of America and the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. Contents within the series also refer to Herbert Fletcher De Cou (Norton's assistant), who was murdered whilst working in Cyrene."
Biographical history
'In 1910, the first officially-sanctioned archaeological excavation at Cyrene was led by American archaeologist Richard Norton from October 1910 to the end of April 1911 and was jointly sponsored by the Archaeological Institute of America and the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.', u"Norton's expedition arrived for his first and only campaign of archaeological excavation at Cyrene on 24 Octover 1910, and erected a large timber hut above Tomb N.270 on the slopes of the Northern Necropolis close to the Mudir's stone built house, where they stayed until their departure in early May.
